Currently in development are a number of PDA applications designed specifically for use by police forces and security agencies.  These are secure applications that use high level security and data encryption over GPRS (and future 3G) mobile communications networks.

Rugged PDAs for Police officers on the move...

As we have designed these software modules from the ground up, with a solid foundation of practical “real world” input from active police officers working across several operational areas within the police service, to ensure that the applications are most suited to what police officers actually want and will find beneficial to aid them in their duties.

Good functionality, PDA device robustness, good security and practicality with a high degree of easy of use… are all very important elements in the continuing development of our PDA, pocket pc and Smartphone applications.  Rather than building applications that we think polices forces would like, we actually asked experienced police officers what they would like to see in such a tool, we know too... that if police officers like it, then they will use it.

So what features are incorporated into our software applications, well… publicly we are not revealing everything of course, simply for matters of security and knowledge of certain police processes.  However we can say that we take full of a secure mobile device, ensuring that no data is stored on the unit itself, providing it with ease of use form completion, optional GPS and street map overlay feature, also linked to “officer down alert” which can automatically relay the GPS location details for the unit in any emergency, were a officer needs urgent assistance. 

The obvious benefit of a PDA that operates on GPRS (and future 3G) networks is the use and ability to view (send\receive) rich media content such as photographic images, so allowing patrol officers, detectives and other authorised personnel to instantly receive photo images and relevant text data of suspects or incidents, either from an earlier station intelligence briefing or if an urgent incidence occurs in the course of their duties.  Road Traffic officers will have the ability to record digital photographic images of accidents with automatic GPS locations with photo\digital map overlays, so aiding accident investigations, especially with our enhanced GPS accuracy. 

These are just some of the features we are currently developing, and more are being added all the time to take full advantage of the very latest technology available, and all intended to make police work easier and allow officers to concentrate more on their work and reduce the time involve with administration.  

Creating good secure PDA applications is one thing, but interfacing it with the main operational command and control systems of police services is quite another, yet here too we have designed a flexible software module that allows for easy interfacing with back office systems and databases.  Many UK and overseas forces operate several different platforms and systems, so each requires a customisable solution to permit data to be transferred in each direction… and that will now be possible with the new Orbitron PDA applications.
